When Daniel joined HACRO’s Parenting forChange programme, he was going through one of the hardest periods of his life.Struggling with his mental health and uncertainty about his relationship withhis children, he found it difficult to imagine things getting better.
Through HACRO, Daniel found a space wherehe could speak openly, feel heard and reflect without judgement. The supporthelped him consider other perspectives, understand his responses and focus onthe changes he could make, even when much of his situation felt outside hiscontrol.
One message stayed with him: “Control whatyou can control.” It helped him focus on taking constructive steps through adeeply challenging time.
Daniel later gained joint custody of hischildren. He credits the encouragement and conversations during the programmewith helping him find hope and a different way forward.
For Daniel, the most meaningful outcome isnot completing a course. It is being present in his children’s lives andstrengthening their relationship. His story shows how supporting one parentthrough difficult circumstances can have an impact that reaches into the livesof children and families too.
Daniel is apseudonym used to protect the participant’s identity.
