More Than a Second Chance

Anton’s Story

For almost a year, Anton had been lookingfor full-time work. His conviction had become a barrier to employment, leavinghim with little confidence that someone would see beyond his past and recognisewhat he had to offer.

At HACRO, Anton found people who believedin him. Through ongoing encouragement, mentoring and meaningful activities, hebegan rebuilding his confidence, developing positive routines and finding arenewed sense of purpose. His passion for tennis played an important part inthat journey, helping him stay motivated and connected.

As his confidence grew, HACRO workedclosely with Anton to identify opportunities that matched his strengths andinterests. Rather than simply helping him apply for jobs, his employmentadvisor approached employers directly, advocated on his behalf and helped opendoors that had previously felt closed.

Following an introduction to groundsmaintenance employer John O’Connor, Anton was offered a taster day and securedfull-time employment shortly after.

Today, Anton is thriving at work, developing new skills and contributing to the upkeep of public spaces acrossHertfordshire. He proudly shares that he now wakes naturally at 6.30am, readyfor the working day ahead.

For Anton, this is about far more thanearning a wage. It’s about confidence, independence and belonging. For hisemployer and the wider community, it’s a reminder of what becomes possible whensomeone’s potential is recognised and given the opportunity to flourish.
